The Elders are the most powerful Vampires in the world, ruling over the Covens with the assistance of the Vampire Council. The Elders hold the highest power in any Coven and all Vampires must answer to them, the exception being maybe another Elder.

Viktor is a ruthless vampire Elder and, with armies loyal to him, he overthrows the original Vampire Markus and sets himself up in Vampire myth as the first Vampire. Viktor is the most powerful Vampire ever to have lived mostly because his manipulation, experience, and cunning far surpass the other Elders'.

While William was bitten by a wolf and became the first Werewolf, Marcus was later, for still unknown circ*mstances, bitten by a rabid bat, mutating his Corvinus Strain with the bat DNA, resulting in his transformation into the first Vampire and the progenitor of the entire Vampire species.

Powers and Abilities

It is implied by Selene that Alexander could have stopped Marcus because he was "the oldest and most powerful".

Michael's rare blood type makes him capable of absorbing both vampire and Lycan (a.k.a. werewolf) DNA — thereby turning him into the target of nearly every supernatural hunter in Hungary, all of whom hope to use his gift amid a centuries-long feud between the two factions.

Selene then beheaded Elder Viktor, and she and Michael went into hiding. With two of the three vampire Elders destroyed (see Underworld), Selene's only hope is to awaken the last remaining Elder, Marcus (Tony Curran), who is still in hibernation, and expose the truth before Kraven can kill Marcus.

Immunity to UV Light: Due to her nature as an evolved Vampire, Selene is no longer vulnerable to sunlight. At the end of Underworld: Evolution, her eyes are shown to turn almost a pure white, and she is now able to walk in the sunlight.

Weaknesses: Weak to Dragon Slayer Magic. Selene should suffer from motion sickness as a result of being a Dragon, which causes her to become severely nauseous while riding transportation. Selene cannot eat the moonlight energy created from her own Dragon Slayer Magic to replenish her stamina.
