Vegito has been a part of the Dragon Ball universe for a very long time. His upgraded form with a larger power level and different color, also known as Vegito Blue, has also had an important role to play in many stories told within the Dragon Ball universe. Being a mixture of Goku and Vegeta is just the beginning of Vegito Blues' interesting backstory.

With such an important role, and when you consider just how much power Vegito can wield, it is definitely worth learning a little bit about the godlike Saiyan. So here is a list of 10 things players never knew about Vegito Blue.

8 Vegito Is A Combination Of Goku And Vegeta, With A Twist

It's Not Just A Gimmick

Vegito, like everything in the Dragon Ball Universe, has multiple complicated storylines that all have slight variations on where he comes from. The one thing all of his origin stories agree on (manga, anime, and video games) is that Vegito is a combination of Goku and Vegeta through the use of the Potara Earrings. These earrings are held by the Supreme Kai, and when placed on opposite ears, allowsing two people to fuse into a single being, though the fusion is supposed to be permanent.

There is usually a situation that Goku and Vegeta get themselves into that requires someone that has a lot more power to handle and so they fuse together and form the infinitely more powerful Vegito. Vegito then goes on to either handle things or (like in the anime) lose to a foe to show how powerful the enemy is.

7 They Fuse Using A Potara Earring

Fashion Meets Fury

Vegeta and Goku use a mystical object called the Potara Earrings to fuse and form the more powerful Vegito. These earrings have been gifted to both Vegeta and Goku several times over the course of the manga, anime, and video games, with them often being a last resort when facing unstoppable odds.

All Supreme Kais have access to these magical items, though they do nothing when they are both worn by the same individual. These earrings work better when the two users are a better match, Androids 17 and 18 are speculated to be near-perfect partners for fusion since the two are twins. Interestingly, the God of Destruction, Beerus, is the one who made this observation, and he also has a twin brother from Universe 6.

6 His Power Is Godlike

To Battle Is Divine

Since the Potera Earrings are necessary for the transformation into Vegito, and then into the divine energy form of Super Saiyan Blue, Vegito's power is otherworldly in nature, and his power rivals that of the gods themselves in the Dragon Ball universe.

The union was initially debuted in the fight against Super Buu towards the end of Dragon Ball Z, and returned again to face off against the fallen god Fused Zamasu in Dragon Ball Super. In the Dragon Ball Super manga, Vegito declares himself to be a true god, confirming his status as a mortal since he himself is not a Supreme Kai.

5 He Has A Time Limit

Because of the nature of Vegito's fusion, it isn't a perfect union of the two Z Fighters. Poterra Earrings are intended for the use of the Kais, who are immortal beings. When they're used to merge two entities who are not immortal, there is a new time restriction on them, rendering them a temporary fusion. Giving them one hour to defeat their foe before they are split into two different fighters once again.

However, this limitation wasn't known when Goku and Vegeta first performed the fusion, especially since they were forcibly separated by Super Buu's magic, though this could also have happened because of the natural time limit. This natural limitation built into the character's fusion helps to balance the hero in the face of overwhelming odds, otherwise, Goku and Vegeta could just fuse to face down any strong foe and defeat them with ease.

4 Vegito's Attacks Blend The Two Fighter's Styles

Twice As Many Moves

Since Vegito Blue fuses the two fighters, there is a blending of their two unique fighting styles, especially as the fighter ascends to even higher levels of power. While there are plenty of attacks that draw inspiration from the two fighters, it isn't until he turns Super Saiyan Blue that his true potential is revealed.

One of Vegito's signature attacks is Final Kamehameha, which has Vegito position both his hands before him as if he were making the motions for Vegeta's Final Flash, then bringing them to his side like a Kamehameha, bringing together both the yellow and blue ki from their two signature attacks. The God Final Kamehameha brings this attack to the next level, unleashing all of Vegito Blue's energy into the attack. This attack has only been seen in Dragon Ball Heroes but still stands out as the peak skill of this ultimate fighter.

3 There Is Some Discrepancy With His Name

What Is A Vegito By Any Other Name?

Vegito's name makes sense as it's the combination of both Vegeta's and Goku's name, but it isn't quite as simple as that. The name comes from a portmanteau of the Japanese spellings of the two fighter's names, using Vegeta (ベジータ or Bejīta) and Goku's saiyan name, Kakarot (カカロット Kakarotto). The romanization of the Japanese spelling would come together more accurately as Vegetto.

Since publisher Viz Media adapted the original spelling of Kakarotto into Kakarot, the fusion's original name was Vegerot in the manga. When Funimation took the reigns of the anime dub, it was again edited to the more familiar Vegito, taking the 'to' of Kakarot, and flipping them for the new name. When Dragon Ball Z Kai was released, the more streamlined version of the original anime, the spelling that Funimation chose to go with is Vegetto. Adding the blue to the name signifies a new level of power, and is what Vegito chooses to call himself once he awakens his divine strength, something he only gains access to in Dragon Ball Super once the two original saiyans learned to access divine power.

1 He Once Cut Down A Tree

Okay, it's a little more complicated than just chopping down a tree. During the Prison Planet and Universe Creation Saga of Dragon Ball Heroes, Goku and Vegeta found themselves up against another long-lost Saiyan, a monster of a villain named Cumber. Cumber is so powerful that he has access to the Great Golden Ape transformation and requires the use of even Super Saiyan Blue Kaio-ken for Vegito to go toe to toe with him.

Eventually, the overarching villain Fu was trying to birth a new universe with the Universe Tree, with the help of Cumber and other villains. In the manga, Vegito Blue is able to use his energy blades to sever the tree from its trunk, hoping to prevent Fu's plan from succeeding.
